Many seniors experience fear of falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance teaches practical strategies to reduce this fear and increase activity levels. Classes are held twice a week, in sessions of four weeks. |

Description |
The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for adults 55 and older in York, Cumberland and Southern Oxford counties. Foster Grandparents volunteer with children in schools and Senior Companions provide companionship and support to seniors in their homes. Volunteers meeting federal income guidelines receive a non-taxable stipend in return for volunteering 15-40 hours per week. All volunteers receive meal and travel assistance, pre-service and ongoing training, supervision and recognition. |

“RSVP” (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) places volunteers age 55 and over in numerous healthcare and nonprofit organizations throughout southern Maine. Volunteer Connections volunteers assist SMAA clients with friendly visiting and grocery shopping, assist in the SMAA offices, and help with special projects. Volunteer opportunities are also available in several other SMAA programs. |
