On Saturday, May 13th, the Portland Fire Department (PFD) will celebrate the graduation of eight new firefighters known as class 2017-24. Their graduation follows a rigorous eight-week advanced fire training drill school. Upon graduation, the graduates will be able to operate city fire apparatus and ambulances, be utilized as interior firefighters, and ensure that PFD and EMS apparatus are staffed with highly skilled medical technicians guaranteeing people in need receive necessary emergency medical treatment as soon as possible. During the ceremony, the new graduates will receive their Portland Fire department badge. Badges will be pinned on by a chosen loved one, a longstanding PFD tradition.
Portland Fire Chief David Jackson will be joined by members of the PFD and City officials as they congratulate the graduates: Cameron Balog of Hollis, Thomas Lafferty of Gorham, Ryan Baker of Portland, Chris Monahan of Portland, Christopher Boynton of Portland, Stephanie Nowicki of Windham, Nathan Elmore of Waterboro, and Patrick Summers of Mechanic Falls.
