Construction Update for Madison, Walnut, Washington Sewer Separation Project

The City of Portland’s Water Resources Division of Public Works would like to provide a status update on the sewer separation project.

On or around April 15, 2019 construction will resume with the removal of pavement and existing cobbles from curb to curb on Washington Avenue from Walnut Street to Cumberland Avenue.  The construction will start near Fox and Walnut St and progress towards Cumberland Avenue.  During the construction work on Washington Avenue, the roadway will be reduced to one lane. This work will continue for approximately two months.

The contractor will also be installing new pedestrian ramps and crosswalks.   During the project the streets will be posted “No Parking” as necessary during construction activities. This is done to protect your vehicles and to make moving around the site easier for the contractor. We restrict parking only when absolutely necessary, so please make sure you read the signs. Vehicles will be towed if in violation. If your vehicles can’t be parked off the road we would suggest you park on one of the adjacent streets and walk to your home or business.

Project work will typically run from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

Please be sure to check the City’s website regularly for project traffic updates.

Trash and recycling pickup for all streets will remain the same. Please make sure both trash and recycling are at your curb by 6:00 AM.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact the City. Nathaniel Smith is the project manager for the City and he can be reached at 207-874-8818 or
