[ARCHIVED] Public Meeting to Discuss Traffic Change at Vannah, Woodford & Clifton Streets

portland news

The City of Portland is inviting the public to join the Parks, Recreation and Facilities and Public Works Departments along with the Friends of Woodfords Corner and the Back Cove Neighborhood Association for a public meeting to discuss a traffic change to redirect the flow of traffic at the intersection of Vannah, Woodford, and Clifton Streets.

Neighborhood groups and City staff have been concerned with traffic issues and accidents at this busy corner that is confusing to many motorists. Rather than implement an expensive construction project, the City will be testing some traffic changes at the intersection using signage and repurposed granite planters. If the changes are successful, the City will consider making them permanent.

The change will consist of closing off the slip lane that currently runs through Baxter Sundial Park. This will have the effect of creating a four-way stop at the corner of Clifton and Vannah. The proposed traffic change will have the benefit of expanding the size of Baxter Sundial Park, and the City will activate that space with seating options and greenery.

PUBLIC MEETING
WHEN:  Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 6:30 PM
WHERE:  Ocean Ave Elementary School, Portland

It is anticipated that during the week of June 17, Public Works will move 15-20 planters into place to eliminate the slip lane through the park and create a four-way stop at the corner of Vannah and Clifton. The Public Works Traffic division will install directional signage.

During the week of June 24, the Horticulture Crew will plant flowers in planters, and install seating in the park area and work with neighborhood groups on park activation.
