Cool Off at the City's Splash Pads & Kiwanis Pool this Summer

new Deering Oaks

Looking for a place to cool off with the kids this summer? Make a splash at the Deering Oaks Ravine or the Kiwanis Pool. The Ravine features underground fountains and a wading pool and is a popular spot for families looking for some relief from the heat. Picnic tables and the William A. Goodwin Playspace are just a short walk away making a trip to Deering Oaks a fun escape for the day.

The Kiwanis Pool, which has been open on weekends only since Memorial Day weekend, is now open for its full summer schedule. It is located on Douglas Street in Portland. The pool’s open swim hours are seven days a week, 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM, and Monday-Friday 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Adult lap swim times include Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM and 12:00PM – 1:30 PM, and seven days a week, 4:30 – 6:00 PM.

Pool access fees are $5.50 for adults and $1 for children. Swim lessons offered by Portland’s Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department are available for ages three and older. People can register for classes online here, at the pool or at the Riverton Pool office. For more detailed information about the city’s Aquatic Program and the Riverton & Reiche pool schedule, click here or call 207-874-8456.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Portland Kiwanis Club, all children under the age of 18 swim free at the Kiwanis Pool during all open swims in the month of July.

The City also operates four other splash pads throughout the city, which are open for the season.* They can be found at the Kiwanis Pool, Stone Street playground, Peppermint Park playground, and Payson Park.

*The Payson Park splash pad is closed for the next couple of weeks while the City waits for a new part to arrive.
