Parks Director - Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department-
The City of Portland is seeking a dynamic, creative and progressive Parks Director to lead its Park Division. This is responsible administrative and managerial work in planning, organizing, and directing the management and operations. Work requires long range facilities planning, development and maintenance priorities for the Parks, Horticulture, Forestry, and Community Gardens to include park development master planning as well as maintenance plans. Work is performed with considerable discretion, initiative and independent judgment under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities in which work is reviewed through discussion, reports and the general observation of the results obtained. The Parks Director supervises, plans, directs and manages the administration and operation of programs related to Parks, Horticulture, Forestry, Community gardens and Park Rangers. Director will assure compliance with City ordinances, State and Federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to those relating to accessibility, safety and pesticide use. The Parks Director also assists the Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities in the long-range planning and development of park priorities for the Parks Division and is responsible for preparing the annual operating budget, capital budget and grants for the Division and monitors expenditures for compliance with the budget, once approved. Requirements: Graduation from a college or university with a baccalaureate degree in Parks administration or related degree, as well as ten years of progressive supervisory or administrative experience in a municipal park agency, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Extensive knowledge of the modern principles and practices of park administration, forestry, park planning, design and construction including experience overseeing the master plan process. Candidate must have experience in budget development and human resource management and must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental employees, City and School officials, elected officials, the public and members of Boards and Commissions. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Salary range for this position is: $79,073 – $94,400/year.
