Barron Center Opens Short-Term Skilled Rehabilitation Unit

The City of Portland is pleased to announce that the Barron Center has now reopened its short-term skilled nursing unit. Patients of the unit can expect high quality skilled nursing care and outstanding post-acute rehabilitation services; including physical, occupational and speech therapy. The unit offers spacious private rooms with 24-hour licensed nursing support and close proximity to the Barron Center’s Rehab Gym. Known as the Zolov Unit, named in honor of Dr. Benjamin Zolov, in recognition of his professional commitment and caring attitude that helped to shape the mission driven soul of the Barron Center. Consistent with that mission, the Barron Center prides itself on not using agency staff. For that reason, the Zolov Unit was closed more than two years ago.

“We are thrilled to be reopening the skilled unit at this time, giving post-acute patients leaving area hospitals another local option for short-term rehab,” said Kristen Dow, Health & Human Services Director for the City of Portland.

For over 200 years, the Barron Center has provided nursing and rehabilitation services to individuals in need in our community and surrounding areas.

“The Barron Center prides itself on providing care that meets the individualized needs of all those we serve,” said Edward Latham, RN, Director of Nursing Services. He added, “In all areas of care, our team strives not only to meet quality standards, but exceed them as well.”

The Barron Center is now offering pre-booking for rehabilitation stays. Contact Georgia Cartwright, RN, Admissions Coordinator, for more information at 207-541-6543.
