Parks Commission Meeting2018-04-05T17:00:00The Parks Commission is a group of volunteer members of the community who are interested in the stewardship of the City of Portland Parks. Each month the Commission meets with the Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department and the Parks Director to review projects and proposals.
The Commission also receives citizen input prior to and during each monthly public meeting to provide recommendations to the Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities and the City Council.
The mission of the Portland Parks Commission is to advocate for the enhancement and stewardship of our parks and open spaces. Review and propose projects that impact parks and open spaces and recommend action. Foster collaboration among park users and the City. Promotes public access and enjoyment. Advocate for public and private funding for parks and open spaces. Enjoy Portland for Life.

Land Bank Commission Meeting2018-04-12T17:00:00The Land Bank Commission is responsible for identifying and protecting open space resources within the City of Portland. The commission seeks to preserve a balance between development and conservation of open space important for wildlife, ecological, environmental, scenic, or outdoor recreational values.
The commission responsibilities include:
-Working for the acquisition and conservation of open space within the city
-Recommending to the City Council on a priority basis acquisition or conservation of significant properties
-Pursuit of gifts and funds from private and public sources for the acquisition of open space as approved by the City Council
The commission has developed an inventory of open space resources within the city. It is engaged in an ongoing effort to proactively protect properties from development through easement, deed restriction, or acquisition.

Boys & Girls Club Patriots Day Race (CUMBERLAND AVE CLOSURE)2018-04-14T09:00:00Route: Runners assemble on Thames Street (near Ocean Gateway), runners proceed east on Thames Street, get onto the Eastern Prom Trail, go under Tukey's Bridge and continue along Back Cove Trail (counter-clockwise), up to Preble Street Field, continue on sidewalk to Marginal Way, cross Marginal Way and continue up Elm Street in the left-hand lane, at Cumberland Avenue they will turn left into west-bound lane to the Finish Line at the Boys & Girls Club. Please use alternate routes.

Recycle EWaste at the 6th Annual Community Electronic Recycle Day2018-04-14T09:00:00The community of greater Portland is invited once again to recycle their unwanted electronics at the 6th Annual Community Electronic Recycle Day at USM Woodbury Campus Center Parking Lot. This is our 6th year holding the event, which has recycled and kept out of the waste stream, thousands of pounds of electronics.
Disposing of electronics responsibly through recycling is crucial in keeping our community clean and vibrant.
The recycling event is free and open to the public. We will be accepting monetary donations with the proceeds being given directly to the Cultivating Community Program. Show your appreciation for free recycling by donating to this important cause.

Route: Exit from Holiday Inn by the Bay onto Spring Street (east bound), continue east on Middle Street, left at Pearl Street, travel north bound lane, then right to Cumberland Avenue, head east using east bound lane, cross both lanes of Franklin Street, right into Cathedral Parking Lot entrance. At the conclusion of the summit, participants and guests will assemble in a USM parking lot and march from USM in a southwesterly direction along Bedford Street toward Deering Avenue, taking up the south bound driving lane. Take a left onto Deering Avenue and head in a southeasterly direction toward Deering Oaks Park taking up the south bound driving lane of Deering Avenue. Turn from Deering Avenue into the Deering Oaks Park entrance. The march will follow the road through the park and end at the stage. There will be a rally on stage with presenters and live music. There will also be food trucks and other environmental clubs with table set ups in the park.
