City Manager Releases Recommendations for FY19 CDBG Allocations

news alert

City Manager Jon Jennings released his recommendation to the City Council for FY19 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding today. More information is available on the City's CDBG webpage. The City Council will hold two public hearings regarding the CDBG funding before taking a final vote on the following dates:

Public Hearing 1 – March 19, Council Chambers at 5:30 PM

Public Hearing 2 – April 18, Council Chambers at 5:30 PM

All applicants are encouraged to attend the meetings. Public comment will be taken at both meetings.

“As in past years, the need for CDBG funding continues to exceed the amount of funds available,” said City Manager Jon Jennings. “We received almost $2.9 million in requested funds and my recommended allocation is for roughly $1.7 million. As in prior years, the CDBG Allocation Committee and I were faced with difficult choices in this year’s recommendation process and struggled with which applications to recommend for funding. I want to thank the Committee for staying focused on the scoring criteria and the information provided in each application in order to be fair to all applicants. While my recommendation differs slightly from theirs, I am extremely thankful for their critical role in this process.”

It is important to note that the City of Portland has not received its FY19 allocation from HUD. Current allocation estimates are based on level funding from the previous year. Given the current situation in Washington, there is a possibility of the allocation being changed and/or the funding cycle start date being delayed.
