Live-Streaming of Council Committee Meetings Begins Tuesday, March 6

news alert

The City of Portland is excited to announce that it will begin live-streaming broadcasts of all Council Committee meetings starting with the Economic Development Committee on Tuesday, March 6 at 5:30 PM. All live-stream feeds can be found on the City’s website under the Government tab, and directly, here. Meetings will be archived on that page and available for viewing the following day.

This effort follows a resolution put forth by Councilor Spencer Thibodeau and approved by the Council in June 2017 to enhance the number of video streaming options of City Council meetings and to begin live-streaming Committee meetings. As of July 2017, Council and Planning Board meetings are now live-streamed through the City’s Facebook page via Facebook Live. Committee meetings will begin appearing on Facebook Live in April.

The addition of live-streaming Committee meetings follows several key technology enhancements that the City recently implemented to improve the customer experience in City Hall including touch-screen digital wayfinding kiosks, digital calendar screens outside meeting rooms, and TV monitors that display news items and additional wayfinding. On top of that, City staff are working hard to implement the Tyler Technologies software platform, which will allow the City to share and disseminate data to the public in a more user-friendly way.

“City Council and City staff have long shared a commitment to open access to government deliberations and decisions, and that’s why we’re so excited to offer these additional ways to increase our transparency and meet the needs of our customers,” said Jessica Grondin, Communications Director for the City.

Over the last month, camera and microphone equipment was installed in City Hall meeting rooms 24 and 209 to accommodate live-streaming of Council Committee meetings.
