Fire Department Gets Ready to Celebrate 250th Anniversary

The City of Portland’s Fire Department is getting ready to reach a milestone on March 29, 2018 with its 250th anniversary. Fire Department officials will hold a media event on Thursday, the 29th at 11:00 AM to observe the official anniversary and then they will celebrate with a 250th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, March 31 at 5:00 PM at the Holiday Inn By the Bay. 

In honor of the anniversary, the Department put together Portland Firefighting, a commemorative book, which will be unveiled at the event on the 29th. As the Portland Fire Department celebrates the 250th anniversary of the inception of organized fire protection, Portland Firefighting takes the reader on a 220+ photographic tour encompassing not only the department’s history, but the development of firefighting through the centuries. The book can be purchased for $20 at the the Portland Fire Museum, through local bookstores and retailers including the Maine Historical Society, and online at the following links:…/1127754404……


All proceeds from the book benefit the Portland Fire Museum.
