Portland PD Teams Up to Remove 11 Unwanted Vehicles from Peaks Island

On April 30, 2018, 11 unwanted vehicles were removed from Peaks Island. John Kamp of Kamp Masonry Landscaping, Lionel Plante Associates, and Peaks Island Police Officer Dan Rose collaborated to remove these vehicles using the LPA Barge. This is the third year that Kamp and LPA have volunteered their equipment and time for the event.

This round of vehicles raised $1,100 for the Peaks Island Children’s Workshop and $175 for the 5th Maine Regiment Museum.

“We’re also excited to announce that $175 was donated to fund a new bicycle helmet incentive program for kids,” said Sgt. Eric Nevins. “The Portland Police Department and the Down Front ice cream shop have teamed up to reward kids that practice safe bicycle skills with a free ice cream! We’d like to thank everyone who donated their vehicles for this great cause.”

With parental permission, the Portland PD will recognize safe riders on social media via Nextdoor and the Portland Police Facebook Page.
