June 14 Public Meeting for Park Avenue Protected Bike Lane Project

news alert

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, the City's Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting for the Park Avenue Protected Bike Lane Project. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria at King Middle School at 92 Deering Avenue from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

This DPW streetscape project will reconfigure Park Avenue from Forest Avenue to Valley Street by introducing parking projected bike lanes in each direction, narrowing travel lanes, slightly reducing on-street parking and implementing a consistent 3-lane cross section.  The proposed changes will be done with paint, bollards (flexible posts) and signs and will complete the link between existing bike lanes on Portland Street and on the remainder of Park Avenue and St John Street. The intent of this project is to increase transportation options for all, fill gaps in our city’s bicycle network, and improve safety for all road users living, working or traveling in the Parkside neighborhood.

This public meeting will allow City of Portland staff to inform the public, specifically the abutters, about the project design and proposed parking changes. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the project design and ask questions related to the project. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jennifer Ladd at jwl@portlandmaine.gov.
