On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the Portland Veteran Firemen’s Association and the Portland Fire Department will be holding the 16th annual Open House at the Portland Fire Museum, which is located in the 1837 firehouse at 157 Spring Street from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see the Portland Fire Department’s proud past with two floors of exhibits, including two hand-pump engines, a steam fire engine and a 1938 McCann motor pumper.

Two horses will return to the horse stalls inside the firehouse. Historic Portland Fire Department videos will be shown, including the 1912 film showing Portland’s firefighters and horse-drawn apparatus leaving and returning to neighborhood firehouses on the peninsula.

The Claddagh Mhor Pipe and Drum Band will perform on Spring Street in front of the fire Museum in the late morning and Portland Firefighters with their apparatus will be there throughout the day.

Fire Prevention Educational material will be available for children, as the annual Fire Prevention Week begins Sunday, October 7th through the 13th.
