City Code Amendments

Posted on: February 25, 2019

New Hotels Required to Support Affordable Housing

The policy enacted by the ordinance is intended to increase the affordable housing stock to allow all economic groups to have the opportunity to live affordably in the place where they work.

In recent years, the city has experienced a steady rise in hotel/inn/motel development with an increase of 30 percent since 2012. Based on current projects applied for, approved, or under construction, the hospitality number of rooms will increase by 23 percent over the next two years (FY20-21). The proposed text amendments are guided by the Comprehensive Plan, and build on existing programs such as Inclusionary Zoning and the Housing Trust Fund to implement best practices in workforce and affordable housing development.
