CDBG Funding Process Begins in October

portland news

The federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is designed to help non-profit organizations start or expand innovative and creative programs that serve the needs of low-income Portland residents. The City of Portland receives approximately $1.9 million annually of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The goal of the CDBG program is to develop strong communities by ensuring decent affordable housing, providing services to the most vulnerable, and expanding economic opportunities for low and moderate income persons.

The 2022-2023 Mandatory Applicant Meeting will be held Thursday, October 14 at 5:00 PM. This meeting will be held remotely via Zoom, and pre-registration is required.

Attendance will be required to submit a 2022-2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Application for the 2022-2023 program year. This meeting is mandatory for any organization wishing to apply for 2022-2023 CDBG funds. If you are considering a CDBG application, a minimum of one representative from your organization must attend this meeting.

The City will prioritize the following categories of projects/programs in its funding decisions:

  • Neighborhood Investment and Infrastructure: Create strong, safe, accessible and vibrant neighborhoods
  • Housing Availability: Increase housing availability and affordability
  • Economic Opportunity: Create economic opportunities to transition people out of poverty
  • Address the Needs of the Growing Homeless Population: Prevent and reduce homelessness

For more information: Visit the City’s CDBG website at www.portlandmaine.gov/CDBG or contact Kelley Walsh at kwalsh@portlandmaine.gov or 207-874-8731.
