City Expands Eligibility Requirements for Portland Growing Child Care Grant Program

Newsflash 2022

The City of Portland is expanding eligibility requirements for its Portland Growing Child Care Grant Program (PGCC) made possible with American Rescue Plan Act funds. Existing centers – including home-based providers, and out of school providers (before and after school) serving less than 75 children are eligible to apply for up to $11,000 in grants to help sustain and grow their businesses. This is an increase from the previous requirements that only centers serving less than 50 children were eligible. New home-based child care businesses can still apply for up to $15,500 in grants to help them with startup costs.

Find the application and learn more about the Portland Growing Child Care Program at portlandmaine.gov/BusinessFinancing. Please direct any questions to: Kaela Gonzalez, City of Portland American Rescue Plan Program Coordinator, kgonzalez@portlandmaine.gov, 207-756-8233.

This program was created in response to an increasing need for accessible, high quality, and affordable child care in Portland, as well as to meet a critical need for expanding childcare options. Focusing attention on the childcare system can also provide increased opportunity for quality jobs and entrepreneurship, therefore extending the economic impact throughout the community.
